How to Encourage Children to Read

Many studies have been conducted that look at the effects of parental involvement in their children reading development. The results have shown that this factor is a significant contributor and beneficial to the child reading of developments in primary and secondary schools. The evidence is that young children whose parents read to them have better language development and enjoy an advantage at the primary school children whose parents do not. Parents can set the foundation for your child's participation with the books and the enjoyment of reading in many ways. One of the most effective ways of teaching a child to read is for parents to read themselves. Children learn through observation and imitation, and as parents are the most important people in their world, seeing his mother and the father of the pleasure of reading books will make a strong impression in the minds of children. Another way to prepare a child for reading is to ensure that he or she has a book-rich environment in which books, magazines and newspapers can be viewed and handled. Being able to physically interact with the books is important to the learning process of children.

Book preparation should begin when the child is very young, but it is never too late to start. Parents may make visits to bookstores and libraries in order to address one of the favorite books that are associated with pleasure in the minds of children. The excitement and anticipation when preparing to go out and buy or borrow a book will tell the child that this is a fun activity that he or she can wait.

Parents can engage children in the process of choosing a book. Some children are non-fiction books about animals and cars and so more entertaining than fiction and should be allowed to continue their preference if it leads to a successful reading experience. In addition, many children enjoy the comics where you can follow the story, looking at photos. Children love to see photos and drawings. Most books for young children containing color illustrations that attract children to look inside the covers.

Many libraries have story corner where an adult - sometimes even well-known authors - reading books to children. These can be fun if the reader is a competent storyteller and can bring history alive.

The reading should be presented as a normal, and the satisfaction of an important part of family life and this will greatly contribute to ensuring that children see reading as a pleasurable activity.
